Where do you live? There is good grouse hunting in many areas of the state. The key is young aspen (wrist- to thigh-sized), alder, forest edges with hawthorne, highbush cranberry in wetter areas, hazel...But aspen is key. In southern Michigan, there are aspen regeneration projects on most of the state wildlife areas that will hold grouse. If you hunt in the winter (after deer season), birds will often be concentrated in conifer cover. Cover ground, and don't wait for 'open' shots!
