Slunger,
There are a lot of great guns out there but The Beretta & Benelli come highly recommended by a guy that hunts a lot of birds upland & waterfowl he loves both but real leans toward the Benelli super Black Eagle in 12ga. Either one would nake a great bird gun

From what I know about these guns, this is very sound advice. If your budget is lower than this, I recommend a Remington 1100 or 1187. I purchased an 1100 when I was 18 years old. It was my first autoloader (and my only one). Most have told me nightmares of the 1100s tendency to jam. I have not discovered this yet. Maybe I am just lucky. I even use the no-no for gun oil (WD40). I have been told this will cause your gun to hang up in colder weather. No problems here yet and I have hunted deer many times in the freezing rain.

Do not forget about O/U guns. There are many choices in the same price range as autoloaders. I just bought my first O/U last year. My 1100 stays in the gun safe until deer season now. I really enjoy hunting the O/U. Good luck.

Good Luck with the Duck!

P.S. I turned 34 this past December, the 1100 is 16 years old!

Can't go wrong with the 1100 or 11-87 if you can get a 26in. barrel all the better

For a field gun, where you are going to spend more time carrying than shooting, I like the Franchi 48AL. In 20ga it's only about 5 1/2 pounds and it handles like lightning.

I have to agree on the Beretta & Benelli. When I did my shopping it came down to Montefeltro and 391. I bought the monte and have been extremly happy with it.Its easy to clean too.

I too have the 1100. and mine is at least 16 years old. I was going to buy a new shotgun last year. Then I got into duck hunting and skeet shooting. After seeing all the abuse the gun was taking and still stood up to all the shooting, I am sticking with the 1100. It is a pretty banged up gun. the blueing is pretty rough and it hasn't jammed on me. I am thinking of buying a O/U. I like the price of the stoeger. So I may pick that one up.
