.410 Shooting

I was just wondering how many of you use .410's for grouse hunting? I have matching .410 and 12ga. doubles and it's very hard for me "not" to grab the .410 every time. They both weigh exactly 6.5# so it's not the weight. Anyway, I was just wondering.

I have a little 410 s x s and just love it when it comes to Grouse hunting but I find the 410 doesn’t reach out far enough for Sharp tails in the later part of the season...

I know what you mean. When I lived in Montana I seldom carried the .410 in leiu of the 12ga. because of the pheasants etc...

We don't have grouse in FL, but reading this thread brought back memories of the Rem 1148 I use to use when quail hunting years ago.:)

I know I wouldn't use a .410 on pheasants. I have a hard enough time killing them with 12 gauge with number 5 shot--seriously.:DI haven't hunted grouse though soI don't know if it would be effective. My 12 gauge only weighs 6 1/2 pounds too.

It's the only shotgun I own, but it does the job!! I have shot all kinds of grouse with it, using #6 shot. It does just find, especially on the spruce and ruffed grouse. If they fly off, it isn't far. Have a blast shooting them and they taste delicious!!

The 410 is used quite commonly here on ruffed grouse and is a great gun for young people. As others have stated it doesn't seem to carry as far as the guages though. Good Luck
