RE: gun for bird hunting
ORIGINAL: GREEK HUNTER who would pay that much for a gun i would buy the land to hunt on first 72k for a gun :D:DI was checking out Guns America and seen this shotgun. A man has to be a millionaire to buy it or a fool! |
RE: gun for bird hunting
How about both!!!!!
|
RE: gun for bird hunting
Guns aside, what type of birds are you hunting for? That would help everybody out emmensely if you told us!
|
RE: gun for bird hunting
Beyond what you are going to hunt could you tell us where you hunt and how much you are willing to pay. $72k for a gun is insane for you and I, but Bill Gates probably has a monthly VISA bill that is less than that. Are you willing to look at used guns? This would open up a whole new realm for you. Most reputable gun shops have a good selection that they could also walk you through.

well in my area there are mostly pheasent so i guess that would be the main bird. can you shoot slugs from all 12 gauge guns.. buddy told me to get the moss 835 but i want something that would last...

RE: gun for bird hunting
There are certain shotguns you just can't go wrong with. The Remington 870 is one of them. Affordable and durable. You can't beat that. My dad gave me one in 20 ga for my 12th birthday. 13 years later it's still my only bird gun. In all that time I haven't had a single malfunction.

RE: gun for bird hunting
Either the Mossberg or 870 will probably last a lifetime, but both are clunky. The Mossberg 835 is a 3 1/2 inch mag so the action is extremely long and if you short-stroke it, you might not get a shell ejected. I don't think either of these guns handle particulary well.
I'd stay with a 12 in your situation. I'd look at a Beretta AL391 or a good used AL390. Both are rock-solid, handle well and have stocks that are ajustable with shims. I think an o/u would be the ideal gun because you could shoot two chokes like IC/mod and have a little more choke for a second shot. You didn't say what you want to spend, but there are bargains on used o/u's out there if you don't want to pay new prices. |

ditto on the 870, 12 or 20, very versatile and affordable, tons of accesories and upgrades available too

RE: gun for bird hunting
The 870 is a safe bet, but I agree with underdog that it isn't the best choice. I like the idea of a used o/u probably in a 12 ga.

RE: gun for bird hunting
go to a gun shop and look atused guns. properly cared for used guns will last you the rest of your life. you will have to decide on what you're willing to spend. just remember the game you hunt doesnt care what your gun cost you. that said,a quality gun is much more pleasurable to use.a good 12 guage is the best all around size for any type of bird hunting regardless of type.
