21.5lbs, 9" beard and 1" hooks. Man, what a season(if you call a day and a half a season!!). I went out yesterday morn' for the opener, only to blow it. I was set up for a tom that was to my left at ~80 yds when out of the corner of my eye I see movement. Sure enough, here comes a tom barreling in chasing a hen. I tried moving the best I could but he was on the move. I just held my gun w/o an anchor and he bust into strut, and I couldn't swing to shoot. Well after three minutes or so he walked into my shooting lane, but I was shaking so bad I pulled my shot. Missed at fifteen paces!!! Well, I went back this morning to the same spot, and had three toms and several hens walk by about hundred yards away. These toms are henned up bad! Didn't want anything to do with any calling. I left the woods about 6:30 to take my son to daycare, but was back around 8:45. I couldn't hear anything gobbling, but knew sooner or later something would show up so I put out a hen decoy and settled in. I was trying to think how many seasons have gone by without bagging a turkey(I think this is my sixth), how many things have gone wrong for me with past hunts and boohooing myself when I hear the leaves rustling right behind me. I turned to look and all I saw was a beard and red head hustling through on my left.He must have been strutting or something directly behind the tree I sitting under and saw me move?. Anyway, I picked up the gun, and when he stopped for a look...BOOM!!! Down he went! Now for the crazy part. I ran up to him, grabbed his legs and stepped on his head till he stopped flappin and movin'. I whoo whooed, put him over my shoulder and paced the distance back to where I was (45 paces), put him down and started to get my tag out of my wallet when all of a sudden he picked up his head and tried flying away!!! I tried stepping on a wing but got the tail instead and wound up pulling three tail feathers[:@], but finally managed to wrestle him back down and break his neck (and head)...I wasn't about to let him go. Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I'm still so pumped about it (shoot, this happened only an hour and a half ago). The best thing is, I drew two tags this year! Two more weeks....
My wife left our camera at her mother's house
, but I'm going in to work to get the digital. I'll try to have some pics up later.
