I have been hunting a lone big tom here in West Virginia for the past three mornings. On the first morning he was really gobbling good off the roost but he seen me cross the hollow to get on the same ridge as him and he shut up. The next morning he had several hens with him and would not budge. However, this morning I caught him alone on a ridge and he was looking for company. He was gobbling like crazy off the roost. I sneaked in during the dark and got within 60 yards of him on roost. Shortly after day break I made 2 soft calls and he flew down 40 yards from me. He immediately went into full strut and stood there for about 3 minutes. One more soft call and he closed the gap to within 30 yards and the Browning Auto 5 with a Federal 3" Flight Control #5 load put him down instantly.

He had a 10.5 inch beard with 1 1/2 spurs. Nice mature gobbler!
