Default Found tracks.. now what

I found some tracks, and also spotted a hen nearby. I have spent several afternoons/evenings in this area but have not heard a gobble. I have been using a crow call, and have heard owls before dark, but no gobbles.

Does the presence of hens mean there is a tom in the area? If so, what do I do to locate him?

Thanks

Your best bet on hearing a gobble to locate one would be to get out there before sunrise and listen. Not hearing gobbles doesn't mean there is no toms around but it also isn't a good sign. If they are there they may be harder to hunt. You may have to setup in a "likely" spot and just start calling. That method can work just keep a good eye out because the bird probably will come in quiet. The chances are that if there are hens around, somewhere there is a gobbler close by. Good luck and let us know how you do.

sometimes in the afternoon they will not gobble all that much. get there befor first light and listen.then when he gobbles go to him and setup and wait to see if there are any ens with him , if not call to him lightly and if he answers, wait till he flys down , then call to him and see what happens.

I'd keep trying the locator call as this would give you the opportunity to locate the bird but not call him in until you are set up and ready. Spending time in the woods is the best way to locate a bird and I agree that the best time to be there is before sunrise. Make sure to check for scratching and roost trees. Best of luck to you.
