Doublin in Ky
#1
Started my season out right this morning(4/17). We set up on a group of birds and had them pass in front(the hens) and the toms behind us. But strutting and mating just up the hill about 60yds, the entourage moved further up the hill. We eased to our left and set-up again and told Joey to let'er rip. He mouth calls(naturally) and they can't stand it. B4 long here come more than we expected. Three longbeards and a bevy of jakes, along with one of the biggest jake i ever saw, come easin down towards the dekes and then, instead of goin directly to the decoys just to my left(Joey is just to my right 4 yds), they came straight in to the little woodlot, right at us. My gun was positioned wrong, more towards the dekes, and at under 15yds and wide open, there they both stood struttin Eventually they were gonna walk into our feet, i moved my gun slowly but steadilt to the bird and he kinda hesitated. BOOM!!! Joeys bird simply flinched and then BOOM again. We had prearranged that i would shoot first since he tagged on the youth hunt and if there were more than one bird. What a feeling i never had b4. Doubling with your son! Heard numerous gobblers and non-stop gobblin with this bunch until the 8:15 killin
