My son's first gobbler! (pic)
First day of the Missouri youth season, Saturday, April 9. We got a late start, 12:30 to be exact, and season closes for the day at 1:00. We walked into the woods, yelped on my Lynch box call, nothing. Moved about 200 yards, and repeated, only this time, a gobble! We were below the bird, and knowing I had to get at least level with him, we double timed it up the hill, reaching the top, I wanted to check the bird, so I yelped again. Holy cow! He is close!! I looked left, and there 30 yards away, is a gobbler on full strut, staring right at us! We hit the turf fast, hit the box again, heard "ppfffttttt! doooooooooom" and wings dragging the leaves. He crested a small knoll, and Austen saw him at the same time the bird saw us. He broke strut a mere 15 yards away, the 870 barked, and the turkey fell. The rest, as they say, is history! I couldn't be prouder. 22 lbs, 10 inch beard, 1 1/8 spurs. Not bad for a first timer! I think he might have gotten spoiled, tho. It ain't always that easy!!!

Outstanding job! Congrats to you and your boy. I'll be doing the same with my son, this being his first year of legal age to carry the gun. We're both anxious for April 23rd to get here.
