RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
i wanted to many times in the fall but its shotgun or bow only in this part of the state [:@] but i can shoot squirrels all day with my 22 in the fall....wish i could shot the turkeys i always see when i got the 22 chasin tree rats....im VERY confident with my 22...not many squirrels make it away without a stinger through the head....id shot em right in the head...but i know i can do it...id definently make sure it wasnt moving....that would be the hard part...but i know it would drop em like a brick......

RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
it is not legal in most states ; ( as it should not be).a 22 for turkey is sorta like a 22 for deer.illeagle and just not the right gun.
I have hunted squirrles with 22 rim. all my life, and only take head shots.you could do the same with the turkey ; (if the head would stay still long enough),thats the thing with turkys , they don't hold that head still for very long. I think it is illeagle because it just is not ethical, even a head shot just 1/4"off and you have a wounded bird that will die out of site and be wasted. JMHO;[&:] in Fla. it is legal to hunt with a rifle as long as it is center fire.( the thing with turkey hunting ,is getting them in close).that way you don't need a rifle. |

RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
Guys by no means am I planning on going into the turkey woods with a .22 lr.I was just asking if it would get the job done pretty good with a body hit?
|
RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
I've shot a few with both the .22 LR and .22 WMR. No head shots all body shots. You must hit them right where the wing attaches to the body. All of the turkeys I took were at less than 60 yards. I will not shoot at one farther than that with a .22. I don't use them for spring hunting just for the fall season.

RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
Was it a pretty good kill criggster?
|
RE: .22 lr for turkeys?
The first one was with a .22 LR at a tom running full force across an open field at about 30 yards. When I pulled the trigger he folded up and never took another step. But, I used to practice alot back then. The other couple of birds were all with a .22 WMR. I used HP bullets and never shot past 60 yards. I did hit one hen a little far back, but she only went about 40 yards before I got to her. The rest were clean kills.
