Default So what is your weapon of choice for fall turkey?

I'm just curious about what every one else uses for fall turkey. I like to use my 11/87 with #5 Federal Premium.

I usually take my Remington 870 with the same loads I use for spring hunting. My Dad has been toting a .22 mag/20 gauge combo gun and has killed birds the last two years with the rifle. He killed a jake about 3 years ago with his .308, group of birds we're in an open field. 150+ yard shot.

My oldest son will take the first one and he shoots a Mossberg 500 ultra light turkey gun chambered with 3'Federal Premium 4's.I'll be shooting the same gun I have shot for about the last 20 seasons and it's my Ithica Mag 10 chambered with my own reloads.2 1/16 ounces of 6% antimony lead at 1305 fps.Shoot straight and they dont get up!!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>PBB, where did your dad get his gun because man I could sure use a combo gun like that huntin cottontails up in the desert here in N. Calif? Also sounds like it would be a terriffic squirrel gun!

Bob,

My Dad's gun was actually his fathers, he used it for squirrels. It's made by Savage and it's pretty old. Savage still offers combination guns that are reasonably priced. Tikka also makes combo guns, but I believe they're quite a bit more exspensive. A gun from Savage shouldn't be very hard for you to find.

I think I'll go back and forth between a bow (an old Ben Pearson Mach one) and my trusty old NEF 12 ga. single shot.
