Had a great youth weekend. 6 hunters 3 birds killed. Nasty windy rainy Sat, and a windy Sunday. I took Landon out and we tried. Had to resort to going to the gobble. They were henned up bad and seemed to be still in Winter flocks. Anyway Landon didn't get a bird but he got an eyeful. We had 5 strutting, drumming and spitiing birds, with 40 hens and several Jakes. He had an opp on a jake but wanted to wait out a longbeard. I worked the flock toward us somehow, probably just got where they wanted to be, dought I called em LOL. But they never got into open woods. They stayed in the cedars and had quite the morning. Landon got to see a fight and a romance scene. One kid took this beauty. 26 # 3 beards. Too bad he's not on the team:D Seems early stiil. The gobblers were sporting white heads with very little red showing. Redbuds should be out soon...Morrels and Longbeards to follow.

I've been doing a lot of scouting up here in northern new jersey. Hope I harvest a spring gobbler. April 18th is our opener.

Hitting the woods tomorrow, our opener! Have not got a chance to scout except one morning. I moved away from the farm for the big city life. [&o] But, have hunted the area for years, and know about where they usually are. Found someone here that is willing to share some hunts with me, so I'm pumped. Good luck!!! I am gonna try and head out in the am myself. The weather has been bad all week, a few tornadoes and storms so hopefully I won't be fixin fence again!!

We had our 2 day youth season opener today and it was awesome. My little sis got her first bird today. Not a monster but you couldn't have told her that. It was a trophy for both of us and I'm glad to have been there with her.

Well here we go.... I'm gettting ready to leave for KS in about 15 minutes and hopefully I can return and put another bird on the board for us..... Whats nice is I get to return to roll right into MO season...... Isn't life great!!!!! :D:D:D

Season starts Monday here in NJ i cant wait i have been doing alot of scouting and hearing a good amount of birds.:)

Man...WVa must have the latest opening date in the US.... ours don't start til the 25th.... WAAAYY too late ,IMHO...that's why our kills have steadily declined over the past 5 years, and are back to 1991 levels!!!

The season starts on Monday here in MI as well. We have located the roosts and have them flying down in the same area every morning. They quickly move to their strut zones and go to work. Now all that we have to do is pray that no one else is observing this same pattern and planning to sneak in and harvest my birds. ( Private land) I truly believe that the sunrises this year have been more spectacular than ever before. It could be that I actually slowed down enough to consider all of the aspects of hunting. I am sure that I speak for all of us when I say that the face masks we wear for chasing turkeys are really just to camoflage the smiles on our faces when that first bird lets lose his gobble. Got us one...... I only had two days to hunt KS but they were great!!! The birds were kinda henned up but worked pretty good in the mid-morning thru afternoon hours. Me and 2 others went for 2 days and got 4 good birds. Hopefully I'll get both my MO birds early and can go back to fill my other tag. I'll post pics later.

I got a Ky bird for Team 8. I killed him Sunday, April 17 at 6:50 AM. He had 2 hens with him that kept leading him away. I knew where he was headed and circled & got in front of him. Then just let him come to me:) He was 21.05 lbs, 9" beard, & 1" spurs. He scored 59.05.

Hey I connected here in Michigan for Team 8 on opening morning(April 18-7:25 a.m.)! The bird weighed 23 lbs. 1 in. spurs and 9 1/4 beard. Looks like team 8 is racking them up! My bird scored 61. 5625. Unbelieveable morning-- saw 6 gobblers --- several larger than the one I harvested, but I set up on a fence row and the fence limited my shots on some of the larger birds. Please don't take this as complaining only saying that this was a morning I'll never forget. God bless!! - He truly has me!!!- I'll post picks sometime this week! Congrats little indian and alwyshntn!!!!

Sorry guys... I'm tryin, but the weather went from 70 earlier in the week to 30 with snow by FRI... I tried to hunt on Sat morn, but it was super windy, super cold and snowing... This whole weekend is shot for me... It is supposed to be that way most of this week... I only have till next Sun, so I hope and pray it gets warm by next weekend... Every year I get screwed in some way and wind up getting squat... I need a place to hunt in Southern MI... [:@] Oh well... We'll see what happens...

Gonna try one more time this weekend, but no promises here either!! The weather really stinks here too!! It is 66 now, but it has been in the 80's, plus storms are movin in and it is supposed to get cooler[:@] Oh well, gonna give it my best shot though!!

Almost scored again. It was a set up that I had to be on him when his head poped up. I thought he was going left & he went right. I had him at 10 yds. He heard me walking up the point to another bird. When he gobbled I had to set up quick. I was setting at the same tree where I took my 2nd bird last year. I hit the call 2 times & he was in my lap. I feel the season will get better before it goes out. I have had another bird give me the slip 3 times this season. I know where he roosts & struts. I will get him before season is over. It is starting to get personal[:@].Good luck to everyone still hunting.

hunted 1st time yesterday here at home.... heard 2 birds..set up on both during the morning. both had at least 3 hens...the 1st I sat up on gobbled til flydown,then went cold..the 3 hens I saw fly down before him made smalltalk at best, and moved down the mountain....he quickly followed...
the 2nd bird was in the middle of a very vocal harem, but none would investigate...this gobbler didn't speak much, and wouldn't answer any calls... tough huntin', but we'll try again when the weather and time allows... at least it wasn't raining...

Tagged out in NY... one nice longbeard (18 lbs., 8", 1", 1.25") and an unfortunate jake that turned left at just the wrong moment. Oh well, wasn't going to leave him for the coyotes. So, two more for Team 8.

One more try... This is the last weekend of MO season and I am going to try real hard the next 3 mornings...Hopefully I can post a couple this weekend... My dad and brother both killed this week and said the hunting has gotten considerably better the last several days so I can't wait...

I took my second Ky. bird & tagged out yesterday on the last day. I took a 20 ga instead of my 12 ga and missed a big longbeard. But killed a jake as consulation. I usually wont shoot a jake but since it was the last day I went ahead & took him. I also had a bobcat come in at 25 yds. I stood up & scared him off before he scared the bird I was working. I had a very eventful last day. For the most part it was a fun but tough season. They seemed to be henned up most of the season. Good luck to those that are still hunting.

Finally took my own bird in KY 5/03/05. Not a very big bird. Like little indian mentioned my hunting was virused with henned up birds. Went in AR last Friday. Had some response but no available shot. May still make NH this month.

Finally took one last tuesday am in ky. Not very big but a bird. Rain and hens[:@] dampened my efforts in 2005.
