RE: Hunting spring gobblers after 12 noon
I've taken several Toms between 2 and 3 pm. It seems like if they are hened up in the morning, they give them up afternoon and will come strutting in.

>>>> Pretty much agree that PM hunting has little if any negative effect on bird populations, and I do dearly "love" that afternoon hunting. Sunday hunting is another "bone" here in NC. Heck,we can't even get it out of legislative committee and on to the state house floor for a vote. The church(I do dearly love my church)has put the fear in legislators and convinced them that this issue is a "non-starter" for the voting public, and therefore it should be tabled. We'll get it eventually, but who knows how long it will take.....

In Colorado, you can hunt from half hour before sunrise, (first shooting light), to half hour after sunset,( end of shooting light).

RE: Hunting spring gobblers after 12 noon
Normally, by noon, I've had enough and am ready to go back to my truck, unload myself of all the stuff I carry in, then go back to camp to get cleaned up, eat lunch...and take a nap!

RE: Hunting spring gobblers after 12 noon
Several of my hunting friends killed birds in late afternoon last season. Four of them, to be exact.
Ky has had an all-day season for awhile now, but the flock still keeps growing, despite record high kills every 1 or 2 years. Pretty good evidence that it isn't harmful from a wildlife management point of view. |
RE: Hunting spring gobblers after 12 noon
We hunt all day here in Washington. Last year was my first year out here, and man are the days long in May in this part of the world. Lots of hours to get on a bird though. But by the time we break camp and head home, I'm beat. This Mississippi boy loves to hunt from dawn to dusk, but I gotta throw a nap in somewhere.
