NYS and when I hunted in Pa on public land I had a riot.I was hunting a place in Pa during the week there might be five other cars on 12,000 acres.

I know a guy that guides in SC when he comes up he hunts public land.

I hunt Western Md. Which borders Pa, WV. So I have to deal with a lot of Pa pressure!!!! Maybe I need to buy me a out of state license and jump ship>>>

Why should that make a difference? I hunt private and public and WOULD NEVER SHOOT A TURKEY OFF THE ROOST. I uderstand there are morons out there that do it but it doesn't mean it's right. When I hear about it happening all it means to me is that they don't know how to turkey hunt.

Why would you want to? All the fun is trying to outsmart them before they see you. I would find it boring to do so.

I've hunted both, and still do,and still would NEVER change my position on this subject!I've already stated to me its a safety issue and I wont let things like peer pressure,competitions,and just plain iggnorance change my better judgement just to kill a turkey!!!!!!!

I can't believe that there are folks who would actually shoot one on the roost. That's something that all even half-way serious and responsible turkey hunters should strongly discourage.

I can imagine a young kid who hasn't been taught how to turkey hunt doing it, but not an adult.

Well this is a sore spot for me, and here it is :

1/ It is the Most uneithical thing that a person could do.

2/ It is not hard to do what so ever.

3/ If it is done , the person is not a hunter but mearly a Killer and does not fit into the turkey hunting sport bracket.

4/ All DNR's and MNR's that approve of this type action , does not care about the sport of ethical hunting and must approve of the action for different terms other then the sport (Tags=Revenue).

5/ If you have as a person getting into the sport , I sure hope that you have decided after you did it the first time to resault into a better ethical way and learned from passed exsperence , that Calling a bird into range is a far more better exsperence , then this sort of action.

These type hunters take away a part of the sport for the true Turkey hunting sportsmen, as I hear the same every year in this country I live. This is one of the Lowest grade eithics I have heard of from being a part from Pouching. I have and would suggest to all to presure your DNR /MNR to have this sort of Regulation changed in your State.

No one will hunt with me and take on this sort of action as a resault of killing a bird in my area or anywhere else I hunt or guide...BT

Adrian Couldn't agree more. Believe me if Mr. Longbread ever came to NY it wouldn't be to shoot one on the roost.

Wouldn't even dream of it, although I did shoot a gobbler once that flew up in a tree to get a better view of my calling position. He sure wasn't "roosted"......just wiley! :D

Now, can I assume that nobody here that's opposed to shooting roosted gobblers, would go to central America to get their Ocellated to complete their "World Slam?" That's how 99% of them are killed, although Lovett Williams says that he's been calling some in during the past couple of seasons. Myself, I have absolutely not the slightest interest in killing an Ocellated, just to say that I've done it.

What makes it even worse to me is that the guy brags about shooting turkeys on the roost, and at the same time is bragging that he is taking 5 or 6 birds a year, so it's not like he needs to shoot them on the roost to get one, I think he just likes shooting stuff.

I went back and read the site and it looks like he took some flak and pulled the two articles about shooting turkeys on the roost, but he seems to have some support for limb shooting, so maybe the stories will come back. The guy sounds like he thinks he is a turkey God or something. He and some of his people think nothing is wrong with shooting 5 or 6 birds a year, and knocking them off a brach to do it. I think it's sad.

It doesn't sound very sporting to me. I've only been turkey hunting for a few years, but never considered shooting one on a limb just to say I killed a turkey, or in this case, a bunch of turkeys. What is there to be proud of to be bragging on a web site? [:o]

It's illegal here in Ohio. Kind of defeats the purpose of hunt'in them. I don't need meat that bad!

I have heard Rumors Of people shooting turkeys from there Roost , Maybe even know one, But its not right...........I know a Gent that Waits just as turkey flys down & shoots him, Hes handicaped thou.....Arthitis in his shoulders....But he still makes it out every year & hes in his late 40s .....& he only uses a 20 gauge to turkey hunt, So gives turkeys A slight advantage ....Some people may dissagree even so If you knew What kind of Hunter this guy used to be, You would understand......

But Guys that Stalk Turkeys In thick wooded areas, Like up here in southern Tier NY ..... Last year Was calling & off about 30 yards seen this movement, It was gray in color,just off on other side of this hip, Thought it was a hen Sneaking around me, Thank god it was Spring i was hunting during & not fall Or i would have taken this guys head right off....After he Screwed up my morning hunt, I walked up & even knew him & said, Buddy Do that again & some happy trigger finger hunter will shoot you, & walked away pissst.......

its illegal here in fl.i was setting up the other morning,about 5:45a.m. and BOOM.i know that the private landowner shot that bird out of the roost...i just dont know who it is....if nothing else i would of liked to give him a piece of my mind.......not only did he shoot right as it was getting light enough to see, but he scared the blank out of me, lol.............

I'm all for it,
Food is food,
I let many birds go for different reasons,
and would have no problems shooting one on a roost
I havent had the chance to do so, and here In NY it is legal,
no mention of on the roost in the regs

I'm wondering why someone who would care enough about turkey hunting to come and participate on this turkey hunting board would consider shooting a turkey while it is still on the roost? Doesn't make sense to me.
