I have sort of decided I want to try a long box call this year. I've heard a few and they sound awsome. Anyone have experience with them and anyone have recommendations as to which one? The custom makers have plenty but I'm having trouble justifing the high cost. I've seen a couple at Turkeyhuntingsecrets.com from $30 to $60.

A couple of years ago, I too decided that I wanted a long box. I had heard folks talk about them on here but I'd never heard one myself. I decided to get one, so I ordered the American Friction Cut-N-Paddle from Midwest Turkey Call Supply. I decided on the American Friction because it had won 1st place in the Long Box division and also won the Gibson Award for overall best of show at the 2002 NWTF awards. Believe me, I wasn't disappointed when I got the call. It is one of the most awesome calls I've ever personally heard and I've put it to good use the last couple of spring seasons. It will strike up a gobbler from unbelievable distances and you can tone it down to bring them on in with it also. I just can't say enough about this call and my friends I've shown it to think it is sweet also. It is kinda pricey as are all good long box calls but it's worth every penny IMO. I now believe every serious turkey hunter should have some sort of long box in his arsenal of calls, whether it be the American Friction or some of the other good ones out there. Good luck with your decision!

Don’t over look the Quaker Boy Mini Boat Paddle. One of the smallest long boxes, fits easy into your turkey vest. It might be small but it’s very powerful, loud and high pitch. Be warn if you run the call inside your ears will ring, the price run’s around $22.00

Animal has a point, the mini boat paddle from quaker boy is a really good call for the price. I think i got mine off the net for around 12 bucks. It was the ticket in Wy and SD for those long range birds. I carry it all the time

Well I took your advice and just ordered a Quakerboy mini boatpaddle as well as a Cody Woodsman glass from Midwest turkey call supply. I've been wanting the Cody for some time as well as a boatpaddle box. I still may get the American Friction longbox too. Sounds like it would fit my wants and needs great. As for the longbox I like the Camp Screaming Hen and Southland Calls mohogany boatpaddle. Prairie Calls has a good looking longbox too. I'm going to have to get a trailer to pull all my calls into the woods. If these calls sound as great as they should maybe I'll just sit in the back yard and call the turkeys into town. Thanks for the advice.
