Memphis Mike here!! Well it has been six month since my hunting accident!!! I have been improving in my health but it has been a slow process!! I still have over 90 number five shot in my head and have lost vision in my left eye !!! I am still not able to go back to work due to pain and slow mental proccessing!! I have been blesssed with a great support group of family and hunting buddies!! I am currently taking 5 different types of drugs and seeking psychological help from a trauma and pain specialist !! I also have a team of 3 specialist working on my eye, sinuses and pain !!! I have had 5 operations in six months and have to have one more in january!! I have seen over a dozen different doctors and they are all amazed i am still alive.
I am attaching some photos to show you what a #5 shot 12ga. at 15 yards can due to you!!! REMEMBER THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANY OF US!! I have been hunting for 34 years and never knew anybody in a hunting accident let alone be involved in one !!! So Please be safe!!! please show these photo's to your huntin buddies it may help save a life!!

Mike my prayers go out for you to have a complete recovery. You are living proof that it only takes a milisecond to ruin someones life,so everyone out there THINK then THINK again before you squeeze that trigger.

Good to see you survived my prayers are with you for a full recovery, your post reminds me of a day of turkey hunting with a friend of mine which needless to say no longers hunts with me. any way we were walking back to my truck my friend was behind me about 2 to 3 feet away all of a sudden the loudest boom i have heard ever and a extreme sensation of heat on my neck and cheek which singed my neck hairs and beard. I remember collapsing to the ground because my ear was hurting and ringing so bad I tryed to get up but couldn't because my equalibriam excuse me if i spelled that wrong was knocked off so bad after about 10 minutes i managed to gather my senses and stand up first thing i did was grab his shotgun and said I'm F-ing carrying that next I said what the heck were you doing. He explained "I didnt realized the gun would go off by pulling the trigger then simaltaneously taking the safety off". what a dumb@$$ I told him. I had some psycological problems afterwards from the thought god if that muzzle was just a little closer to my head I surely would have been dead from a pointblank 3 inch turkey magnum to the back of the head. I also suffer from perminant hearing loss in my left ear. even 8 years later I still have constant ringing in that ear.

I have taught weapons training for over 8 years and still see people in the field with safeties off and or hammers back. On the way to the hunt sight. We all have to learn from this and get on any one in the group not following weapons safety. Start kids out young and that includes when they play with even fake guns. 8years or 80 years old we all need to do a self check. Sorry mike you had to show us what happens when we relax the safety. But hang in there and you will be out busting turkeys in no time. (you might go alone next time.....but you will be out there.)

memphis mike,
You are in my prayers and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
In 1996 my neigbor got mad about a dog.
He went in his house and grabbed a 30-30 rifle and when he grabed it up it went off.
The bullet went threw his bed room wall and hit my pickup truck.
The bullet went in at the back of the cab on the drivers side and out the front windsheld.
I sat in the truck and If I was in it at the time,
The bullet would have took the top of my head off.
Scary huh.
Well memphis mike I realy hope you get better.
And I will be praying for you.
