Had a good day today , but just not productive.
Last evening , we went for a drive and found a place that we got between a couple of jakes and Hens and a Tom. The tom went to one side of the road and the others to the other. Before day light we got setup in between and heard the old boy sounding off. I called and he answered. As I worked the bird we heard him getting closer and then silence, I figured he was getting close to the road. We waited out for a bit and the Cold morning started to set in and I thought of packing up and moving on. As I get out side the blind,I look around and noughting. So we packed up and walked for the road to find a truck parked right inbetween us and the location of the Gobbler. I walked to my truck and this guy starts the truck and drives ahead up to me and stops and says man theres a dandy 100yards off the road. I said ya I know we were setup on the other side calling to it. He said sorry , but the birds coming this way, and says I'll go and you setup again , so we did. I think the excitement at the road was a little to much , because he never did come....
We moved on to the place that jalvja and I killed our birds early in the season, and took a walk. Well not long after entering the woods , I get a gobble. We moved into a location and got setup and started to work the bird. Well after a bit another 2 joined in on the fun, and as they get closer, were ready. The guns up and aimed , as the bird let out a gobble , and he was so close that I could sware he was standing right in the open in front of us,,,A ghost Turkey! , then silents was the game, but after 10 mintues, another gobbler gobbles 60-70 yards off , and we swing on it. I start to work it and then all of a sudden Putting, and carring on and gobbler turns ands heads off away. There was No way that bird could see us, it must have been a coyote that came in, maybe thats why the first bird went silent hmmmmm.
Well we circled and tried again and I fire up another,, we get setup on this one and he is answering with intrest , but holding back, so we make a move for another setup and if we don't have a deer from the same spot wind us and Blow ,, Man I just can't win today. That bird went silent aswell. Well I look at the watch and its 12:00 on the button , so we head back to the truck. We never scored today , but for the first time in the season , I had more action then any other day this spring...BT

I've found this season that the bird's have been pretty silent till later in the morning .numerous times I've been almost ready to pack it in when finally hearing a gobble,I've hunted later in the morning all season apposed to other season's.
