Question for team 9
Are you guy proud of your team member "06 hunter"?
ONE MORE FOR TEAM #9!!! 66.37! SECOND BIRD HERE IN MO. THEY SURE AREN'T GOBBLING ANYMORE! I PUT HIM TO BED FRIDAY NIGHT AND SLIPPED IN REALLY EARLY SAT. AND WAITED FOR HIM TO GOBBLE. AT 6:15 HE STILL HADN'T MADE A SOUND AND WAS ABOUT TO FLY DOWN TO THE FEILD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRANCH SO I POPPED HIM. |
RE: Question for team 9
Seeing no one cares to share their thoughts makes me wonder where the hunting ethics of turkey hunters has gone to these days. It a real shame that hunting ethics and personal morals don't seem to exsits among at least 15 viewers of this site.

RE: Question for team 9
im new to turkey hunting and i dont really see what he did wrong...i got my first turkey yesterday (saturday may 8th) and i kinda did what he did...sorta...i was walking to my spot where i saw the turkey i was going after the week before and as i was walking to the area where i was going to set up and start calling i saw him throught some trees and he was in range and i shot him and i didnt even get a chance to sit down...is what i did wrong also???
but i DIDNT shoot my turkey when he was on the roost... |
RE: Question for team 9
I say Good Hunt. It takes some skill to close on a bird that's on the ground, and you basicly lucked into a good deal. Shooting a bird off the roost doesn't take any skill or luck. You just have to get into position before it gets light. That's not hunting, that's poaching.
|
RE: Question for team 9
I'm freakin appauled & I'm not even on his team. I do think that in the future with ANY contest on here if you're caught poaching all of your entries are removed. In fact I'm turning in a poacher who shot a hen over the WE in Eastern Wa in the am. If you can't take a animal cleanly or ethically you have no right in the woods PERIOD. Keep your sorry poaching A$$ at home we have enough problems with anti's as it is without you throwing fuel on the fire. "06 hunter" be very glad that I'm not a moderator or I would mount as strong of a case against you as I could to have you banned for life from this site for poaching. Not only did you do this but you "WERE" proud of the fact that you did it, I think that is worse than you doing it. I CAN NOT over look this if it was a honest mistake on the ground with multiple birds all over the place maybe........but you shot him "ON THE ROOST" for Christ's sake. Are you sure you don't want to call up "your poaching" buddies for a good ol' round of spot lighting deer tonight as well since you're batting .1000 ? This makes me sick & I hope that someone in the great state of MO turns your butt in for this, you guys do know that there is a reward for turning people in? Not just from the Game & Fish but also from NWTF I do believe. You sorry excuse you're the reason the "Samson Law" was put into effect. Hope you feel real good about this ol' buddy boy....something you can be real proud of, bet you took him to a taxidermist to huh?

Ditto... heck most of us were out in the woods, and not near a computer, so think of that too? Man what skill it takes to "pop" one in a tree[:'(][:@] Why would you even brag about Poaching? You are what 99.99% of what all of us here dispise and like Bloodhound said I'd turn you in in a New York minute[:@] |
RE: Question for team 9
This is another steller moment & quote from the imfamous 06 hunter posted in response to Controversy? on 6/3/03.
"CHEF, HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT KILLING YOUNG ANIMALS WILL REDUCE THE HERD TO A POINT OF NO RETURN???? THAT' S WHY THE LAWS ARE THERE!! IF YOU OBEY THE LAWS (I KNOW NOT EVERYONE DOES)(insert from BLDHOUND yeah like you........idiot) THEN THERE SHOULDN' T BE ANY RESON FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. I THINK IT' S OUTRAGEOUS FOR A HORN HUNTER (OR ANYONE ELSE) TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON SOMEONE FOR KILLING YOUNG ANIMALS." You're a moron & too let you know it will be me reporting your sorry butt not only to the Moderators of this site to have you banned for good.......but also to the state of MO for POACHING, no need to thank me I understand. If I never hear from you again it will be to soon, NEVER step foot in my woods. |
RE: Question for team 9
ORIGINAL: 06 HUNTER I WOULD RATHER SETUP AND HAVE A BIRD COME IN STRUTTING AND GOBBLING BECAUSE TO ME THAT IS WHAT SPRING HUNTING IS ALL ABOUT!! BUT, I ALSO ENJOY STALKING BIRDS, JUST NOT AS MUCH. I HAVE BEEN EQUALLY SUCCESSFULL AT BOTH. IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW THE BIRDS ARE ACTING THAT SEASON. I DEFINATELY DON' T THINK IT IS UNETHICAL!! ALSO, IF THE BIRDS ARE ROOSTING WITH HENS AND NOT RESPONDING OR COMING TO MY CALLS, I DON' T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CHANGING MY STRATEGY AND ROOSTING A BIRD THEN SNEAKING WITHIN RANGE EARLY AND WAITING UNTILL LEGAL SHOOTING HOURS TO BUST HIM OFF THE ROOST! |
RE: Question for team 9
Dang you Slee.....I was gonna say that....[8D]

RE: Question for team 9
06 stupidhunter
So do you spot light deer? What other game regs DO NOT RELATE TO YOU? Heck yeah ol buddy ol pal pop open a cold one & tell us all about it! Fess all your sins it will make you a better person.....lifting the weight of the world off your shoulders. Hell come clean now & we may stop razzin ya 5 years from now when your hunting privilages get reinstated. I bet you're out right now fishin with dynamite(Dupont Spinner Bait)........sure hope you don't get short fused or a fast burning one or do you prefer a shocking device & a dip net? Man you belong on The Worlds Dumbest Poachers tv show & if theres not one heck lets start it up, we'll get you to reinact it for us as well!!! Do you prefer pink or orange for your jail jumpsuit with the optional butt flap? |
RE: Question for team 9
Dang you Bldhound ...I was gonna ask that...:D

RE: Question for team 9
Hooked on typing works for me!!:D

RE: Question for team 9
Since I'm not on team #9 I been passin over this post but the # of responses caught my eye.Not only is roost shootin just not right ,here in Pa. roost shootin and stalkin a bird is illegal.
|
RE: Question for team 9
We debated the ethics of roost shooting some time back. I agree with jalvja, it is probably illegal (don't know where the tom was taken) and should not be counted as an "official" bird for the Challenge.
As to whether or not shooting a tom off the roost is sporting or not (I would not, personally, do it), suffice it to say that I have learned that I'm not always "in tune" with other hunters' opinions about "sporting" or "ethical" tactics (e.g., I think using a RoboDuck for field shooting mallards in the fall is GREAT, ETHICAL, and SPORTING, others do not agree and think the spinning wing decoy should be banned in the altogether), so I will not pass an ethical or value-based judgment on the matter, except to observe that if it was illegal, by law, then it cannot be condoned. |
RE: Question for team 9
As a fellow team 9 member I have to agree that shooting a turkey off the roost is definitely unethical if not illegal. To me, that is just shooting, not hunting. It really doesn't take much skill to roost a bird and then sneak in on him under the cover of darkness while he is sleeping and blow him off the roost at daylight. Definitely not something to be proud of and I certainly wouldn't brag about it on the world-wide web.
|
RE: Question for team 9
i was just on the missouri dnr site and could not find out if it is legal to shoot a bird on the roost.maybe someone from mo could clarify that for me.if the law allows in your state to do so,although i do not agree with it,i have no beef.i am on team 9 and if it is illegal, nothing turns my stomach more than someone taking game illegally.if in fact it was illegal and someone on this board knows who he is i urge you to turn him in to the proper athourities and i vote that the moderator cancels his bird from the challenge and bans him from this site.
|
RE: Question for team 9
ok just to clarify this situation, i talked to the MO fish and game office today and yes it is ILLEGAL to shoot a bird while he is on the roost,, and yes i will take this up with admin very shortly ,,,,,,,,,,,,, deadshot
|
RE: Question for team 9
ok so everyone knows and we can all calm down over this 06 hunter has been removed from the challenge and as well he has been banned ,,,,,,,, deadshot
|
RE: Question for team 9
THAT REALLY REALLY CHAPS MY ASS!!!!! I have never got a bird yet , but i have enough respect for the birds to atleast give them fair chase....
That would be like shooting 06 while he was sleeping or sitting on the shi*ter! He is a pathetic peice of trash , and deserves nothing less then DEATH!!! lol jk not that extreme , but i bet it made some of you chuckle , but in all seriousness he should have his license taken for a year or 2 until he can be a responsible person! |
RE: Question for team 9
Wayne1 and trapper T- My comment about the 15 viewers were for the one that opened the post (according to the counter) and didn't care to express their views! If you were in the woods or not on the computer that day than it wasn't intended for you. And I'm sorry if you need a while to think over wheather or not he did anything wrong. If I put my foot in my mouth, than so be it! I'm not changing my opinion about the 15 hits and no comment about a poacher.
In the 7 states I've hunted in for turkeys, it's illegal to shoot a roosted bird! Maybe it is different in other states I don't know but if it were legal, I still wouldn't do it! I respect the challenge a gobbler offers us hunter each spring to just blast him off the limb. In the past eight years, this was the first season I came back from WV with out taking a bird and nobody in camp took one either! they kicked our butts this year. On the last day of my hunt I had a gobbler 30 yards in front of me and 2 hens 75 yards behind me. Had a deer snort at me and shout the gobbler up and seal off my chances of getting that gobbler to pitch down to me. I could have blasted him at anytime that morning. Nobody in camp would have known if I shot him of the roost and I could have won the camp pool but I didn't because I'm a TURKEY HUNTER! MK-M-GOBL = 7 WV GOBBLERS = 1 Thanks deadshot for looking into this matter! |
RE: Question for team 9
deadshot,i appreciate you stepping up on this issue.wrong is wrong.we all start the process of a legal and a just hunt months ahead of time dreaming of calling in that beautifull bird.i would bet my next check you will do right thing with this poacher.i am done replying on this subject.thankyou for your intervention.

RE: Question for team 9
NO problem MK, I was un aware of the other thread until now, I agree now that I've seen it, but some of those may not have payed attention to the other postings, and just wanting to post their scores? I'm not standing up for them just putting out another option.
As far as 06 is concerned, he probably used an '06 in his killing. My Dad this year hunted for the first time, and he made the joke of taking his .240 incase they across the canyon, even though I knew he was joking all the way I told him that if he so much as brought a rifle of any kind period, me and him would have problems! I love my Pop but I won't tolerate that kind of crap. |
RE: Question for team 9
MK-M-GOBL, I don't know if I viewed the post without replying or not. Doesn't really matter. Who says I have to reply right away. Perhaps I view the MB while I'm doing other things around the house. I might plan to come back later and post. Or like Wayne said, maybe I want to think about what I want to say before I shoot my mouth off like a dumba$$. Maybe I wanted to research the game regs for MO and have my facts straight before I blast this guy with both barrels. Don't assume the people that viewed the posts without responding condone or approve what this guy did. You know what happens when you assume. Some of us even have lives outside of the MB. Perhaps since it all worked itself out through the channels, maybe we can play nice again.

RE: Question for team 9
deadshot ..Thank You for following up in this matter..............................MK-M-GOBL ...I was just saying...there's alot of post's I read....but don't comment on right away...sometime's the more I type...the worse my spelling get's....and I hate to show off my ignorience,,[sp. ?]....But trust me...I'll never condone what .06 did..:)
|
RE: Question for team 9
I'm sorry if I offened anyone here and I'm glad to see the proper action was taken. The support of others was also pleasing to see. Now that's it over, like determined posted, I'm done replying as well on this issue. For those that are still out challenging the "King of Spring" GOOD LUCK! and to the ones that are done, I hope your season was filled with some great memories.
trapper T & WAYNE1 = Thank you both for the follow up! I was pissed at this issue and maybe I could have done it different (like a more direct subject title). Hope there's no hard feeling and see ya around the forum. |
