Default Busted ?...

I had a nice tom come in to about 40 yards. He was struttin and spittin. My gun was about 2 feet to the left. Before I could even make a move he extended his neck and I was busted. I thought I had a good set up, but then I realized I set my orange behind the tree and the bird came in from the side. Would just seeing orange on the ground make an old tom run? I know you should be safe, but I think I'm done setting my orange behind me. Regardless it was an exciting morning.

For what it's worth, just seeing the orange would not make a Tom run IMO.
BUT, with orange being that close to you, it probably drew attention to your set up.
The biggest factor in a tom busting people is movement. That orange laying there was no more a threat to him than a butterfly. But if it helped him pinpoint you it could of played
into it. Just a thought.

That's to bad but it's a long season and I'm sure your luck will change .I know all to well about getting busted I just wrote a post here on it ,it was kind of funny now that I think about it but it wasn't at the time . You also learned something as well and that's what it's all about .If you can take one learning experience home with you after every hunt it just make's you that much better next time out.
