Up til a few years ago, I hunted with a '97. I still have on the rack as a backup gun. It shot best with Remington #6 or Win. #4 turkey loads. With those loads, I'd get about 14-15 hits in the head/neck at 40 yds. The full choke on mine mic.'s at .685. It was a good gun. I took several toms with it, up to 40 yd. away. It had no trouble digesting those loads.

You can try the magnums, but don't pass on the Rem turkey loads. I suspect you'll get a lot better pattern with the turkey loads. #4's might even pattern better with the .685 diameter choke that's on the gun. If yours shoots anything like mine, you'll have a very effective turkey gun with some character.
