He may have been headed to his strut zone, and gobbling to you so you will meet him there. You may have to pattern this bird and find out where he goes to strut and meet the ladies and make an appointment with him there.

Maybe you were in a location where he just did'nt want to come. I have had a ton of birds do that to me. I would change locations and they would come right in. Now I have had a couple of birds not come in regardless of where I moved. These Toms would fly down and immediately travel to their strutt zones. I finally figured that one out and shot them there. Now I am like you about calling, I call only when i have to but when a bird fly's down I am going to hammer him... but I use 2 to 3 different calls at one time. I try to sound like a group of hens and I have killed gobblers that refused to come in with a single call. Try it sometime it may work.

Had you been on the side where that stubborn bird wanted to go he would have walked right into your lap. Some of these birds want to go in a certain direction upon flying down. Usually its towards an area where they know there are always hens. He gobbled back to you saying "come with me". I doubt he was spooked. Sounds like he just expected you to follow him to where he wanted to go. And their brains arnt much bigger than a peanut.[&:][:@]

Hmmm all very intresting replys. I think I am gonna set up on the back side of the bird next time. They seem to always fly down that way. I am just gonna let him fly down and then hopefully get him. I am gonna be persistant in whatever I do. This bird will not make it through the season!!

Dude I'm sure you will figure out why that bird did that in due time. That is the fun part of hunting turkeys. Reading everything you can get your hands on about turkeys. But to be honest with you I dont think you will have any trouble filling your tags this spring or the ones that follow. I'm sure you will make a lot of friends here on this forum
