well i cant hunt during the week or the afternoons, in alabama u cant hunt after 12:00 so i was gonna try to get away from everybody b/c im young it dont bother me to walk a long ways. but the next time i'll prolly get to go will be prolly 2 weeks from now. im usually bass fishin this time of year, and thats what i'll be doing for the next 2 weekends. i may be a turkey hunter but im still a bass fisherman at heart. thanks for the tips guys.

Go earlier and walk farther (than everyone else). Still can't hurt to look for private land access, either. But be safe. If your woods is crawling with hunters, be aware that walking and calling can sound like a turkey (and don't do it). Be safe in your set up. Speak out if you see another hunter. Better to be safe than sorry!!

Try to get out there a couple hours before sunrise and hike at least 1 mile away from all roads. That will cut out 95% of the hunters out there. If you do come across another hunter realize s/he is just as dedicated as you and most likely a pretty good person and you can usually go opposite ways and find plenty of space.

Or, just wait a few weeks. Most people either tag out early or give up if they don't get one the first or second weekend. The birds will be much wiser then so take it slow and easy and try really hard to go out the night before to roost some birds so you know where to go the next morning.

Yes. If all you have to hunt is public land then you will have to over come and adapt!!!! You are on a journey to becoming a better turkey hunter. Once you are able to consistenly harvest turkeys on heavily hunted public land you will be able to kill turkeys anywere!!!!! Good luck on your journey:)

I see you are a dedicated fisherman getting into turkey hunting, I can relate. If there are any rivers or lakes in the wma I suggest these areas. If there is no water then I suggest finding somewhere that has some. This is the way I go about it with some success beating the crowd, and if no turkeys are in sight you're already on the water so just do a little fishing while you're there!!

I don't know where you live in Alabama but I do know Guntersville lake in north Alabama has some wma's on it and since it is a TVA lake most of the land around it is huntable.
