So, maybe your bad luck for him? Have you ever thought of it that way?

It's all in fun and you may be right.

HA!! I have the exact same thing, although last year i FINALLY managed to get froman a bird after like 7 years of no success!!
I tried to get my OTHER friend to go with me the other night, but nope, wanted to stay at home and sleep (in the afternoon too!) and what happened? I came back and had to have him take pictures of me with my tom!! Isn't it funny how this stuff works out GB? I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. Maybe you and me ought to get together and do a little hunting, and let our hunting buddies go together? Do you think that might change their luck? Well on second thought, we may just be the only two getting birds again! [&:] Hey, no offense bamabuck27, just giving you a hard time, kind of like I do Froman and my other bud.. I just don't know what the deal is, I am consistently successful by myself, but not with other friends. I guess it is because I do my homework and can work with the birds better! Yah fro, you heard me.. It is all about the patience!

Well last year I had a couple of chances to kill birds but it didn't work out, even shot at one I called up by myself but was shooting at it while it was puttin away and had a chance to take one tha GB had called about 20 to 30 yards away but I was set up in the wrong direction. But this year we can't even get one to even think about commin in. Had two yesterday just a hammerin at us but they topped the hill (other than the one we were sitting on[:'(]) just to see if their where any hens even there. Oh well, I'm not goin to be a quiter. I'm going to keep at and that's the only way to be successfull. I look at it this way, I hunted deer for about six years before I took my first buck and I'll hunt turkeys longer if I have too.
No matter what happens it is still fun to chase after 'em. Still love to hear'em gobble.

I've noticed in my own hunting that I hunt better when alone as I am more calm. I introduced a friend of mine to turkey hunting a few years back and although he connected on a bird, I seem to feel more pressure to produce when with him. When I get out there on my own, there is no pressure. It may be a clash of personalities in our case as we are both stubborn. Then again, maybe I just need to work on relaxing when turkey hunting with others!!

Keep at it. My brother had the same experience with getting his first buck. If I can ever get him to register his name would be Orphan Maker. He's the doe slayinest person I've ever seen, but he just didn't have the luck with the bucks. Finally this year, after 4 years of passing up marginal deer, he got his first, an 8-pointer. Sometimes things just don't work out. I'm relatively new to the game, but have learned you can't kill'em if you ain't out there. Last year, I got my first bearded bird. I set up on a logging road that I knew they hit. I would stay all day long. The trick to that was to have a blind. Unlike my brother I believe in starting small and building up. Last year, I took a jake, this year I won't. The blind worked really well for me. Gives you more freedom. From what I read in posts last year, gobblers don't even pay attention to it. I wasn't really hid that well last year and they paid me no mind. I did read, however, that hens would sometimes get rattled by blinds though (opinions vaired).
In a nutshell, keep at it and possibly use a blind. Worked for me.
Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me when i introduced hunting to my long life friend Eric from ohio. He has hunted with me for 3 years now and just last year he killed his first deer, it was the smallest deer in the woods and he made a bad shot. I was only 50 yds from him with my son Hunter watching the whole thing go down. As for turkeys he is bad luck when he is with me, i believe the reason is that he is not savvy enough with the woods yet and is not looking where a true hunter would look when moving and he is moving the wrong way. I always say there are 4 steps to becoming a hunter. First, you have to learn how to hunt, second the new hunter has to learn how to cut up the game, third he/she has to learn how to cook the game, and most importantly you know you have a hunter on your hands when he/she finds there own property to hunt on, instead of relying on you to take them. So what im saying is you have to guide him and teach him to be wood savvy and do what hunters do, not the weekend warrior, aka occasional hunter. HAPPY HUNTING.
