I'm the same. I'm back home within an hour so I usually wait and do it in my yard. I have hunted areas that were 3-4 hours away and I did dress them out before I started back home.

lay the bird on it's back, there is a thin skin betwen the end of the breast and the rectum.cut around the hole split that thin skin, reach into the cavity and pull out all that is inside.pour water in the cavity and rinse out.
if it is a while befor you get home, place the bird into an ice chest with some ice.your through till you finish cleaning.

I'm never over ten or firteen minutes from the house so I dress them out when I get home.

Be sure to check your local laws on dressing the bird before it is checked in. Here in Missouri, they take a weight down on the bird when you check it in.
