Turkey gun

I am looking to purchase a new shotgun for turkey hunting. I want something that is light weight with a barrel length of 22-24 inches. What do you guys suggest. Any suggestions will be grateful. Thanks

For the money a Rem 870 super-mag is awful hard to beat.

I have used either a 870 or 1100 for years BUT.... I got a Browning BPS 10ga, not this past summer but the summer before to use on deer sometimes and for mostly one geese.... but I have playing around with some turkey loads in it and I think I am going to have to try it out this spring.. It has a 28" barrel with a xtra full choke in it, I am going to try a few of the aftermarket chokes in it but this set up is awsome.... it is hell on paper from 0 out to 70 yards altough I would not shoot past 45 or so with the gun.... just my 2cents

Oh there is loads of great turkey guns. I love the 870 but also have a Winchester 1300 Ranger and it's a great turkey gun as well. (once I found the right choke for it.)

I agree w/ farmcntry - there are loads of great guns. It's going to come down to personal preference and what you are looking for. Auto vs pump, etc.

For my money - ya can't beat my Mossberg 835.

Of course, if you don't hold on tight - it'll put a beating on ya.

Thanks for the replies, but can you get an 870 in a barrel of 22-24 inches?

Remington makes them from 18" up to 30". I don't know about 22" and 24" lengths, but a lot of their turkey models are 21" or 23".

YOU GUYS ARE ALL WRONG LOL, MOSSBERG 835 ULTI-MAG IS THE BEST TURKEY GUN MADE.

Remington 870

Yeah they make the 870 super mag 3.5" in a 23" barrel that does a great job, can't beat them for what they cost. Try the Rem Ventilator .655 choke in it and you have a turkey killing machine. If you are going to use hevi-shot get the Rhino .660 ported choke and its even badder.

I killed my turkeys last year with a Rem 1100 with a factory full choke barrel and #6's. Killed 'em dead inside of 30 yards. I bought a 835 this year because of the camo pattern and the accuracy. No matter what you use, know it's limitations and always be careful!!

Model 1300 winchester has been the downfall of a lot of toms in my hands. I love the 1300 on turkeys. It shoots and cycles very well as well as having a pretty broad selection of chokes and accesories.;)

I've had my Remington 870 for about 4 years and it has proven to be a good value. The 870's in camo paint scheme usually have a barrel in the 21-23 inch range.

I'm for the Remington 870 Magnum or the 1187. Couldn't decide which one I wanted so I bought them both:D. I believe they're both the best great turkey guns made. My brother is looking to get a turkey gun soon so I told him to compare the three brands he's narrowed it down to for weight, noise and how each one feels shouldering it. I even told him to take a 12ga snap cap with him to get a feel for each ones trigger pull.

No matter what brand shotgun to get, with the choke tubes and the loads offered out there now a days you'll have a good shooting gun. You just take time to pattern it and work up a nice turkey load.:) Good luck
