Dog Whistles to locate??
I have heard that a dog whistle is a good way to make turkeys shock gobble. I have not tried it, just wondering if anyone can support or deny this.
Thanks |
RE: Dog Whistles to locate??
Hmm...not sure if they work or not.
There was a "whistle" on the market 4-5 years ago. I believe it was from M.A.D. calls. Along the same lines that the high pitch whistle would get them to gobble. I bought into it - blew and blew and blew - never heard a sound. |
RE: Dog Whistles to locate??
MAD did market such a call. I didn't buy it, I prefer to use locator calls (e.g. a very high pitched crow call) that will alert other hunters to my presence.

I tried it last year with no luck. Your better off with an owl call.

When you say dog whistles, do you mean those silent type??

RE: Dog Whistles to locate??
I may be in minority here but I use a dog whistle. It is an old brass adjustable screw in type that has produced results for me when roosting.
The strange thing it is a late season locator call for me. Early season on Easterns I have had very little success but late season towards the last two weeks it has worked for me when other calls do not. JW! |

I will stick with the owl hoot and the crow call.If it aint broke, don't fix it.:)

RE: Dog Whistles to locate??
we use goose calls and owl calls

RE: Dog Whistles to locate??
I haven't tried the goose call either. How does it compare to the owl hoo in effectiveness? I have quite a few goose calls because we waterfowl hunt a lot. Where I like to hunt there is a lot of geese. Huh, I may try that one this spring. :)

I bought one back in the early 90's and it does work. Looks like a dog whistle and made out of brass and it's adjustable and this was put out by hunting company. I had lost this but found it today. I will be using it again in couple days
