What shotgun is really affordable for a 16 year old kid, but with enough power to take down a big turkey. What company would work best. Rem 870 or a Mossberg.

I don't shoot either one, but here's some thoughts on the two models mentioned.
Get a 12ga. It's a very useful and adaptable sized shell for a varieyt of hunting situations. A 20'll do it close, and a 10ga will do it with authority, but I kinda like to have sumthin left to eat.
1) There's a heckofa lot of 870's out there. Easy to find a used one in good condition.
2) It seems like Mossbergs are on sale a lot. It may be easy to get a brand new one for a good price. A lot of guys like the Mossberg 835 for their turkey thumpers.

Without a doubt...Remington 870 Express...lighter too.

Depending on how big you 16 year old is will help you with the decision. My Oldest daughter and youngest son both started with a 12 guage winchester 1300. Both pattern very well, are light and because of the bolt design have less recoil than the 870, mossberg and nova pumps. My middle daughter is very small and shoots the 870 youth in 20 guage mostly becuase of gun fit. It'll kill a turkey out to 35 yards+ with a hastings tube and #6 shot.

Find out what fits your 16 year old best and pick it up. It's pretty much a chevy, ford & dodge argument.
