The distance you can shoot game would depend on how well your shotgun patterned . The shot from a 20 ga is just as fast as the shot from a 12 ga there is just not as much of it which would decrease the effectiveness of your pattern at longer ranges . Thats why people pattern their shotguns to see what the effective range is . All guns don' t shoot the same pattern even when they have the same choke .
