How many people learn something new each year about turkey?? I have been hunting turkey for about 8 yr and last year I set up on a bird that we roosted the night before and as the bird started to gobble one gobble behind me about 60 yr that I didn't know was there. I here him fly down and as my luck usually goes he had 9 hen with him. I turned around as he was coming out in the fieled about 80 yd the hen came out first. This was the first time that I had seen hen fight like they did. Last to come out was the old struter he would strut back and fourth about 20 yr. and that was the first time I had heard one spit and drum. I laid on my stomach for 3 and 1/2 hr. watching him strut back and fourth gobbling and spitting and drumming. The hen would come about 30 yd to my decoy and go back, but he would come any closer than 75 yd. Finaly the hen lead him off. The two new thing that I heard and saw was a bird spitting and drumming and hen fighting I mean feather where flying. How about you do you learn something new each year??

Just when you think you have it all figured out, they seem to do something different to make you laugh. I learn something new just about every trip in the woods.

I've been turkey hunting for about twentyfive years now and have hunted and been in the woods all my life. If you don't learn something everytime you go to the woods your not paying attention! It does't nessasarlly have to be a mind blowing revelation everytime but,if pay attention on whats going on around you while your out there, you'll learn some little something everyday.

An old man once told me this about turkeys;
"A turkey can be the dumbest of all animals, and you will NEVER be half as smart as they are."
Man, he wasn't kiddin' either!!
You never stop learning about them, or deer, ect. Anyone who says they know it all, is full of B.S.! We are only part-time predators, they are full-time surviors!! Thank the good Lord that the turkey cannot smell, cause then they would never be killed!
Or can they?...........<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

That's right, Richie. I've always said that if they could smell well it would be a COMPLETELY different ball game with very low odds of success.
One of the things I have never learned from them is, "What the heck did they see?" <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>
