Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Anyone still around from the old days?

I check in here about this time every year, other than that I live on the multiple FB groups and the Michigan Sportsman Forum (MSF). Speaking about contests, ironically this is my 2nd year running the turkey hunting contest for the MSF crew, some dandy birds been hitting the dirt in Michigan since the season opened on April 19th I don't participate in the contests anymore, but also bagged a nice one on the 2nd day of season (Easter morning) he was a foolish old bird who tried to gobble himself to death until he met his match at 30 paces. Weighed 24.9lbs, sported matching 1 3/8 spurs and his whiskers were just shy of 11". My wife got in a bad auto accident at the end of March, otherwise I'd be in NY right now scouting for May 1 opener (headed there the 2nd week instead). Starting to plan more out of state hunts because I want to make sure I'm young enough to chase those mountain Merriams - and JW - I may swing around the lake next year to hunt those fat birds you grow in Cheese Country.

I hadn’t logged on here in years but I got home early this morning from chasing turkeys in Michigan and got to thinking about the turkey contest. Blessed year for this ole MO boy to tag out in MO, WY, and MI.

Man Congrats to yall both! Unfortunately this is the first year I wasn't able to get out. Between dealing with the Tornado, Insurance, Health crap and then when I was able the dang weather (Rain and Hail) was too bad.. I was pretty much stuck.

I’m not on here very much anymore nowadays anyhow. But, I know everyone in those contests helped me a lot. When I first got involved with them I knew crap about turkey hunting as it was all new in this area. I think it took me 3 years to get my first turkey. That one was in the fall with a bow. Since then I have shot a quite a few with my shotgun. Something about calling them and hearing them gobble gets a fella’s blood pumping.. I am hopeful to get one of those black 2 year olds up around my camp this May. But, if it wasn’t for these contests in the past I would of had a very hard time learning how to hunt them.. I give a lot of thanks to those contests and all the fun with them as well..
