It's a newer gun although the price point isn't bad. It also has a product recall (see link below).

The recall is only for some 3.5" models.
The SXP is a re-do of the Winchester 1300, which is still a fine pump-action shotgun. Winchester stayed with the guts of their 1300 and made the outside look more like a Benelli Nova.
If you see a good deal on a 3" SXP 12ga, get it. It'll serve you well. To answer your question...I shoot a 1300, and so does Maytom. All of my turkeys were killed with one, and geese & ducks, and 3 feral hogs.
