Got the Flock Patterned.....tomorrow....xbow in hand
#1
And dog in tow then out the door we go. If i can get there before the flock hits this field I will set up and wait for them. I'll place a few hen decoys and cluck and wait where have been feeding.
If the Flock beats me to the field one of my GWPs will sneak with me to a spot i know we can get really close unseen and I will send her. I know she will be eager to bust that flock. Then we will mark where they fly and call the group back. Or maybe do a sneak whack one bust the flock then and call them back and whack another. I have done that before too.
That's the plan.
And taking a much older guy with me too! Ought to be interesting. Then that evening back to Da deer stand. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

I had a flock all patterned and then the week before season they quit showing up. I had 11 turkeys in a field in the mornings all summer long, now they're in a neighbors field about 500 yards away that I have no access to. Frustrating. I've only seen them in my field once since the start of October. I don't know why they changed. Good luck

Well truth be known.... I missed! 20 yards a woofer.....no runs no drips no errors....nadda.....551 pm here they come all 17. Buddy goes pick one. I did.
First we saw 2 then 4 then 8 then they came running enmass. Put the brakes on short. Buddy thought it was because of the 5 hen decoys. I think it was because of an extra wide blind window. Us moving more than normal. Buddy not in black like i was. So the flock started to balk. He told to pick one and i did. It was at 20. Aimed at the body nothing fancy. No head lopping planned this hunt. Even sounded like a body hit. But the bird showed nothing. They spooked a bit. Ran a bit. But went around the the marsh bowl over the ridge. Arrow or bolt was clean. No blood no feathers no mess........ nadda. Clean miss and me back at the target range getting ready for tomorrow. I know how they come back. And now the farmer starts graining his cattle for the winter. This flock will only grow. I am told I am welcome to bring friends....
Too bad extra harvest tags are not available!

Well i moved this morning...it was exciting and a fiasco at the same time.....all i can say stupid calf
I'll fill u in later..in a tree stand right now.
Using my phone...getting to be ptime time
Well am back in the tree but here is what happened.
i got to this field in the datrk. The day before it was empty of cattle but today it wad full. Well the day before they were gone. Why? Well ya dummy he was feeding them thats why now deal with it... thank god they where rather tame but skittish. I didn't want to get trampled. So i hauled my gear and got where i needed to be. So did the dang herd. All of them . Crap go away ya dang cows!. So i put my gear across the hot fence. Np sense setting the curious creatures might trash it. I still needed a chair. So i walked back thru the cows hoping they would follow me. They did somewhat.
Well the farmer feeds about 8 am. About the time some birds hit the pasture. The pasture was baren of cattle yesterday. So i hopped in my truck. Drove around the barn towards that end of the feedlot , hoping i could coax the herd along quicker. It worked on the older cattle the calves not so much.
Okay new plan. Screw sitting in the pasture sit the woods.
So i hustle into the area they use. Low and behold the pond of spring is dry. Sit there and i do. I pop up my hut. The birds use the edge as they hop under the fence run the feedlot wood edge and hit a lower pasture alfalfa field. I watched flock after flock do it over and over for 2 years now. All i was seeing was hens anyhow. I was looking forward to xbowing a hen. Then making some new wingbone calls..
So i get set up.
Just sit back. Pour a cup of coffee. Was screwing around all morning and i am pooped. I am sweaty and tired. I sit back and i hear a cluck. Then another. Then a kee kee. So i kee kee. And i hear a GOBBBBBBLLLEEEEE. SEVERAL....
wow!
Haven't seen that bachelor flock in weeks. Either has the farmer. But no mistaking that call. So i kee kee again and on the rim as i sit in a bowl is a tail fan! A STRUTTER THEN 2!
I am in heaven . I range then with my range finder. 40 on the head. Nah they come down here wait....so i kee kee again. They gobble again. Here they come. A jake nope pass. A hen..nah...a hen ..nah...oh see the strutters symetrical fan all displayed 2 of them nice thick beards. ..their at 30...nah.they are coming to you. ...and then here come this calf. Ears perked up looking strsight the flock. He stops 20 yards from them. Paws the ground and CHARGES running right through sll of them scattering everybody!
I range the calf. I am gonna eat Veal! Now what? I quickly grab my wingbone and i crank for all i am worth on it. The Toms Erupt int full Gobbling come running back to me but stop at the brush line. I have no shot. And them not seeing no lonesome hen standing. No decoy remember. They leave as i was in the dry pond.in a hut.
Sooooooo......the farmer had a good chuckle he saw most of it.
I talked to him when i met him back at my truck.
I pulled my gear and went back with a shovel and and ax.
There was no area to sit and wait on the well used trail at one tine. Well there now is. And i am the only one that knows about it. I created it!
