The worst sounding turkey calls I've heard came from a real hen. I think she had been injured, or sick. She had a yelp that was a mix of raspy and cough. If I hadn't of seen her when she called, I would've thought it was a person who didn't know how to run a mouth call.

this is quite true, how you call isn't important, when and what are what puts feathers and feet in the air.
