Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Anyone familiar with WMAs in Kansas????

I put in for youth draw for my son and my nephew in Kansas. I got notified 2 weeks ago they were both unsuccessful. I went ahead and made plans to let them hunt Melvern Reservoir area for youth weekend. I booked and paid for a cabin there at Melvern.*

Last night I get an email that one of them was successful at Grand Osage WMA youth drawing. I guess someone couldn't make it and they went down the list.*

My question is this. I have heard the Melvern WMA holds a lot of birds. I don't know a lot about Grand Osage WMA. I think they are 1 1/2 hours apart so we may try and hit both. Just hoping someone knows the area and can give me their 2 cents on which WMA is better.*

Thanks In Advance.

I disagree you can ask and people don't have to respond but some do and in fact I have asked these questions and had several people give very useful advise by private pm. However I have found that the turkey traffic on this site has really died down and for that reason you may not get too many answers to this specific a question here.

Things like this to help someone are really best handled by PMs in MHO. The one thing I can't understand is that the OP says the one boy got drawn for Grand Osage and then says they may hit them both. How would it be possible to hunt Melvern if each is onlyable to be hunted by getting drawn?

Don't want to speak for the OP but my guess is since he didn't get drawn for the quota hunt at first he decided to go to the Melvern Res which is not so they could still hunt. Then his son or nephew got bumped up on the list because someone else passed on the tag for the quota hunt ! And now he is not 100 percent sure which to go to or go to both and is hoping someone that hunted them give some guidance so the youths can get on some birds. But that is just a guess.
