Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Bring pop up blind or not? Archery turkey hunting.

I was wondering everyone's advice on carrying my pop up blind with me while hunting public land for turkey with a bow. I think I'm not going to find a private property to hunt turkey so I'm limited to public land. The pop up blind I have is large enough to comfortably draw a bow in and only takes a minute or two to setup although its a bit noisy opening the windows with velcro and zippers. Its the size of one of the chairs that collapse into a tube shape and has a shoulder strap. I'm not sure if it would be worth carrying as I can just sit in the bushes or what not. I also have three decoys that I will most likely bring. Any suggestions?

I quit hunting without one years ago. My tick encounters went from daily to zero. I hunt in Lyme disease infested Wisconsin as well as Illinois. Got used to a routine of transporting my blind and gear using my deer cart. Works nice. Great for hauling big toms out too.

Do you suggest just finding a nice area to setup away from other hunters, setup my decoys and blind, then do some calling? I also have a high risk of ticks w/ Lyme as I'm in Connecticut so I have a base layer that is skin tight thats expose keep the ticks from getting under it and permethrin to treat my clothes.

Scout as much as you can and go where the birds are. I look for out of the way places that are a bit difficult to get to when hunting public. Like Zim I have a cart and use it at times. I do have at my finger tips several types of blinds and it depends on where I am hunting if I use them. From a Pop-up to a simple Rag or a flat panel blind.
As far as your blind windows - take the screens off they a remwaste of time -
Always keep the Sun at your back. Sit as far back in the blind as you can and keep your windows as wide as you possibly can.
I quit wearing Camoflage and I am now dressed in all black as this dark color blends into the interior of the blind far better than Camoflage color.
So I have quick all black coverups.

I started using a blind, when I started bowhunting turkeys. If you want to improve your odds at being able to draw your bow, undetected, then by all means, bring it.
