Default Mossberg 835 Ulti Mag Turkey Choke?

I am new to turkey hunting and am wondering if the modified choke tube that came with my Mossberg 835 Ulti Mag would be good for turkey hunting ? If not what is a good choke for Ulti mag? I shot with a 3" 2oz #5 shot and got 7 pellets in neck area at 30 Yards. Is that good for turkey hunting?

Thanks

That is a marginal pattern. I would suggest an Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike or a Primos Jellyhead. I shoot an 835 and shoot excellent patterns with both chokes. I would also recommens shooting Hevi Shot Mag Blend or 3.5" 2.25 oz. #6. You will increase your effective range to 50 yards.

A lot of variables here..is the weapon shooting to point of aim? That would be my first question.

It would be if you got them within 30 yd. An extended turkey choke would give you a longer range, therefore increase your opportunity. But if you get them close, it'll apparently do the job.

I had good results with the Mossberg Turkey choke, but excellent results with a Indian Creek Choke

Finally had some nice weather to do a little test.It wasn't a real fair test because I used different size shot. I was using Rem Nitro Turkey 3 1/2 #5 vs Winchester Long Beard 3 1/2 #6. At 20 yards both had almost the same coverage. When I went out to 40 yards the Win had better coverage.

Rem Nitro #5 3 1/2......................... Win Long Beard # 6 3 1/2
20 yds 133 pellets in the neck.......... 20 yds 136 pellets in the neck
145 pellets in the circle................... 158 pellets in the circle
Total 278...................................... Total 294

40 yds 47 pellets in neck.................. 40 yds 60 pellets in neck
84 pellets in circle........................... 107 pellets in circle
Total 131....................................... Total 167

Outside of circle 50........................... Outside of circle 139

This was shot out of my 835 with a 28'' barrel

just like 'BOWHUNTERCOP' said...I had the Mossberg ulti mag choke on my gun for years and killed turkeys. I recently switched to a carlsons extended ported turkey choke and there is def a difference. More pellets in the kill zone and around the turkey . Nothing crazy different.. but hey a couple more pellets to kill is the way to go.

The biggest probem with shotguns are no 2 are alike nor do any shoot the same. I had to off set the densest portion of my pattern with a red dot scope in order to get the most vital hits. It would have still killed birds easily if I had just left it alone but I wanted the best possible chance for success. Good luck.
