Default Gobbling!

Folks they are already gobbling here in S. GA. Heard 3 birds yesterday. Our season opens on Mar. 22 and if this is a sign of whats to come, should be a decisive year.

Eat your heart out JW!

That's awesome! I've been practicing mouth calls for the past few days during my commute.

I hope they don't start gobbling here til about March 15th at 5:30AM. They started in late February two years ago after a couple weeks of warmer weather and the first 2 weeks of the "legal" season were drop dead silent. I hope February is a cold one.

Cold here for a Feb Start for sure -10 F right now with no warm up at all in the future!

But Gobbling has more to do with the amount of sunlight. When they shut up it is due mainly to being henned up and or a drop in temperature. But the drop in temperature doesn't last for long.

Why gobble when Jenny is all around you. And as hard as the Tom struts to show his stuff, Jenny says not today buddy I have a headache!

The way our winter is going over her in MI there won't be any gobblers left to gobble by the time Spring arrives. This may be the worst year I've seen up here since the late 70s when a lot of birds didn't make it and almost all our pheasants died and have never come back.
