Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

What are you referring to in the sawed off version? Choke or not?

I shoot a 11-87 Premier 20ga 3" with a Wrights Swarm tube and Hevi-13 6's. Has set the worlds turkey championship more times than any other tube on the market!!!!

It should be noted that pistol/rifle hunting isn't legal most everywhere. Check regulations first.

A 20ga will work fine, just equip it with a full or extra full turkey choke. I shoot a Rem pump 12 ga with a 21 in barrel, I got the same gun in a 20ga and it works just as well, with less kick. A good buttpad is always a good investment and they don't cost much, and reduce any felt recoil to little to nothing.

I'm not sure just what he is saying about using a sawed off gun. But as far as a choke vs no choke. No choke at all is going to widen your pattern and lessen your chances at getting the pellets where you want them. Think of it this way, on a garden hose spray nozzle. If you tighten the nozzle, you are going to constrict the flow to a fine stream. Much the same as using different chokes on your shotgun. A full or xtra full choke is going to constrict your pattern down, so that your pellets are going to a minimal spot, at a greater distance. Hence, more pellets in your turkey. Then, you need to find the best brand and shot size that works best in the gun you're using.

Thats one thing I'm talking about, but the other would be the legallity of it for another.

The only reason I could see for sawing off a shotgun barel, would be if you were going to use it for close range home defense. Basically ruining a good gun and restricting what you can do with it.

What he has now is a 28 inch barrel on a Rem 1100, good the way it is with the right choke and shells.

As for legality, check your local laws on using something other than a shotgun, or black powder shotgun for turkey hunting.

Default 20 ga

one thing that everybody around here seems to be missing, the 20 ga. was made to shoot a 3/4 oz load and any increase wt. of shot from that amount just makes the pattern a little worse. that's the law of physics caused by the roundness of the pellets and the bore. some gauge's are more particular than others, some just don't care. trial and error is the only way but don't think you will ever get a tighter nicer pattern shooting more shot than less, not with the 20 ga. anyway. there may be other reasons to go heavier but a nice even pattern won't be one of them turkey don't really care what they get hit with, use something and get close, try hunting

cheers

Interesting. I shoot 1 5/8 oz out of my 20 and I doubt you could find a more deadly rig
