Best Turkey Loads

Hey everyone. I'm looking to test some turkey load for this upcoming(and my first) turkey season. I have a Mossberg 535 12 gauge with a Truglo Gobble Stopper Xtreme (.665) choke tube. I was thinking of using #5's at 3.5". Money is kind of tight so I didnt want to go and blindly spend $$$ on a lot of different loads.

So what are your favorites, and have any of you had any experience with this choke/gun combo?

I use Remington Premier Magnum loads 3in #5. So far I like them but Im also still pretty new to turkey hunting,

3 in or 3.5 in 4's or 5's is about right.

I really love the magnum blends 5,6, and 7's. but if your trying to save money...I've put a many birds on the ground with 3" Winchester double X #6's. I would suggest buying a few different shells and just pattern your gun. It's the only real way your going to know what's best for your gun. You should be able to by singles at your local sporting goods store.

I like Nitros and Federal Heavyweights, but, they are at a premium price ($6 to 8 a shell)

MagBlend works best for me but I shot Winchester HV 6s for years.

The heaiver-than-lead shells are not cheap. Generally speaking, ammunition is one of the cheaper parts of a turkey hunt.

More important than pellet composition or shell length...Pattern your gun, and go with what the holes in the target tell you.

However, to save a few $$, get 3" shells and go with a tried and tested load of copper plated lead shot; Win. Supremes or Federal.

For non-toxic, heavier-than-lead, I like 3" hevi-shot #4 and 3" Rem. Wingmaster HD #6. Make that my gun & choke tube combination likes...

For a good lead load, I'd recommend 3" Win. Supremes in #4. Note, all this is based on an assumption that you're shooting a 12ga. 20ga loads may be cheaper, while making the gobblers just as dead.

Win. supreme 3 1/2 #6 works excellent out of my mossberg 835 with a .680 kicks gobblin thunder in it. Didn't mind the 5's but they didn't shoot as well as the #6's. For me #4's are out of the question. But it takes only 1 pellet .
