3 inch shell is more than ample for turkeys. many a turkey has been felled by a 2.75 inch low brass shell(not recomended). the part you got to figure out is what your effective range is and keep your shots in that range. and by all means practice judging yards while sitting on the ground. it is harder that it looks.
