First time out.... opening day.

Got out this morning but no success. Right before dawn I got a couple responses from a push / pull call. After it was light out I heard some gobbling but it was far off on a different property. I think I will get some diaphragm mouth calls. I don't like the sound quality of the push / pull. I know where the hens are nesting and maybe the toms are close by. Unfortunately it is on someone else's property but close to the land I am hunting. I sat in the blind from 6:15am to 9:45am. I assume the turkeys leave the woods and start feeding in the fields after fly down. How fast will a turkey come in to a call? Just curious. Thanks

Ya never know how fast they'll come or if they'll come. Sometimes they are on ya in a minute or 2 or it may take 3 or 4 hours. If ya got nesting hens you may want to put in a little more time in the morning, the hens go to nest and the toms start serchin for that call you made at first light. I've shot a lot of turkeys between 11 am and 2 pm. If ya keep yer butt in the dirt long enough it will happen sooner or later. Good luck to ya.

dont be afraid to hunt the evening either, i just harvested my second tom of the season this evening by catching them going back to the roost. my case is alot like yours though, i can only hunt the evening and the birds are roosting on property i cant hunt. But they do roam into the property that i can hunt and work their way back to roost in the evening.
