What is a great mouth call for starters?

Just about any of em'll do. I'd start with a two reed though.

I'd start with a cheap mouth call from walmart. Play around with the more costly ones once you get a hang of the basics.

Yeah start out with a two or 3 reed call. A thin framed call will work. Or just get some cheapies and try different calls til you find one that's easier to get the basic sounds through it.if you have trouble getting air over the reeds or it doesn't sit right against your pallet put a slight bend in it or trim the tape. Don't trim a lot. Small slivers until it fits. Good luck with the mouth calls. I use them about 90% of the time anymore.
