Got 'er Done
Well, I had a great day yesterday. Started off where my late buddy and I had started out on waht became our last hunt Spring 2011. Heard 5 gobblers. Chased one for about 2 hours. Thought I had him cut off. Not ! As usual. He had 4 hens and they were working into a stand of big pines. I saw him crossing , about 60 yards out front of me, headed off my property. So I watched them head out, then took me a water/snack break and headed off to start over.
About 10:00 I was able to shock a Tom into gobbling using a crow call. Was not sure where he was, but figured he was working along a particular woods road where I had seen tons of tracks the day before. So I headed that way. Fortunately I saw him way up the road around a curve .... before he saw me. I parked my bu%% behind a clump of brush off the road about 15 yards and waited. He started to ease off into the woods up around 100 yardsiout. So, I cut and cackled a couple of times and he came trotting my way. At 35 yards, he stopped. I suspect he was looking for the hen. I soft yelped, he gobbled a couple times and I fired. Had fried turkey breast for supper last night. Not a big bird, but Ok by me. Weighed 21#, 9" beard. Spurs just under 3/4 inch. I figure a 3 year old ???
Funny how hunting works out sometimes. After Tuesday morning's experience I was not expecting another run of good luck yesterday.

21 pounds is not a big bird to you? In my book, that's a pretty big bird. If the spurs were under 3/4", it was probably a two year old. It really doesn't matter though, a longbeard is a longbeard. Congrats
