Stalking 2 Turkeys
#1
At 1:30 saturday we put the stalk on a couple of Toms spoted across a field from me and my buddy Kent. The wind was strong and our calls went unanswered so we took off and flanked them to the left with good cover and a birm about 5 feet tall to hide behind. We got within 50 yards of the biggest bird and 55 of the smaller one. Kent poped up and nailed his big guy, mine jumped 4 feet into the air as I took aim waiting for him to hit the ground. He hit the ground moving in circles like his head was cut off,I fired and hit him at 55 yards or so but hit his main body mostly the wing area it did'nt faze him. He took to running and I fired again but missed his head and neck, bye bye bird! Here are picks of me with Kents stud. 22 pounds,10 1/2 beard,34mm spurs or 1 1/2 inches very nasty looking spurs. Enjoy!
I'm hoping to get out this week and get one I've been seeing in a corner tucked away from public view,I had him coming in gobbling saturday evening but a group of kids on 4 wheelers came flying through the woods and spooked him away from me.
Kent let me display his bird because I encouraged him not to leave the area we came upon them in,he was ready to leave because of high winds and ticks all over him after we came through a brier thicket. He considered it a team effort with me being his encourager for him to check out this area where we spoted them. This encouraged me after not putting a good shot on bird number 2.
