Are turkeys mating yet, and when do you think is the "rut" so to say, of turkey season? Our season is Pretty much April to May.

I pulled up in my truck at my buddy's farm and saw about 120 turkeys at his place in Illinois. The 2 year old toms were struttin and chasing hens around just playing. And, that was just one group of turkeys and the real long beards, there were approx. 20-22 birds.

They started early out here, and will likely be done in the next week...which is when I hit the turkey woods.

Lonely longbeards here I come.:fighting0007:

I'm pretty interested in knowing how some of these guys know their turkeys are breeding?

Bible_Man 03-17-2011 09:41 PM

Haven't seen any real signs pointing to yes in TN...some strutting, less gobbling. Mostly the horned up youngsters. Did hear some mature gobbles last time I was out close to dusk though. Hopefully they will hold off a few more weeks. Season opener is April 2nd for us.
