Are turkeys mating yet??
Are turkeys mating yet, and when do you think is the "rut" so to say, of turkey season? Our season is Pretty much April to May.
no... probably not mating yet
I pulled up in my truck at my buddy's farm and saw about 120 turkeys at his place in Illinois. The 2 year old toms were struttin and chasing hens around just playing. And, that was just one group of turkeys and the real long beards, there were approx. 20-22 birds.
lol... Now that's what im talking about
They are in SoCal......................
im seeein strutters and they are with 6 or 8 other birds . not the big flocks like you usually see in the winter its startin up here
Down here the breeding has already begun.
They started early out here, and will likely be done in the next week...which is when I hit the turkey woods.
Lonely longbeards here I come.:fighting0007: |
I'm pretty interested in knowing how some of these guys know their turkeys are breeding?
Haven't seen any real signs pointing to yes in TN...some strutting, less gobbling. Mostly the horned up youngsters. Did hear some mature gobbles last time I was out close to dusk though. Hopefully they will hold off a few more weeks. Season opener is April 2nd for us.
Some of the hens are acting like theyve been bred and are on nests so I would think so....the reason the hunts dates are what they are here is because they want to make sure the hens are bred before the hunts, ok, most of the hens are bred, lol...our season starts tomorrow, so I think they're right on time....
Only Gobbling here in Souther Indiana so far it's been warmer than normal up till today so I hope that keeps them cooled down and not in to big of a hurry for a while. Our season does'nt start for another month here. I'm not hearing a lot of gobbling but some are getting vocal.

seasons usually start halfway in the breeding season in the south.
