Really I don't bother even though it is used by Hens at times - It is a Turkey Call Competition sequence that is a waste of time. IMO.
Lovett Williams Real Voices CD has a good representative of the call. Yes I have heard it live and can mimic it but on a mouth call - however I don't use it.

Yelp or cluck or Purr and I to like to cutt!
All I need.

But a fly down cackle is like a sort of cutt sequence or just fast clucking followed by a yelp or two or even a 2 series cluck.

Best way to mimic a fly down is with a turkey wing. Save the cackling and the gobbling and all that mess for the stage.

I use the fly down cackle in conjunction with a real wing to mimic fly down and it's produced awesome results! I suspect the reason it's so effective for me is because MOST hunters are NOT using this call so the birds aren't becoming wise to it. This call often gets 'em fired up and anxious to head my way first thing in the morning. I consider it one of my better calling "tricks".

Thats one less item u have to carry with you to the woods.
If u want to hear what a fly down cackle sounds like.

Crgjr, I do the same. In the morning i do a few clucks, then using my hat, i flap it a few times aginsed my legs, then followed by a few more clucks, purrs, and sometimes yelps.
Always seems to work well for me when i know im in the rooting areas.
