Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Public Land Success (in CA)

Got out of bed before the roosters and headed up the mountain with some fresh Folgers and donuts for brekfast. Got to the spot and hiked up the mountain to listen to where the birds had roosted the night before. We hear the gobbles way down the mountain. Unable to get to the birds we elected to just set up and see if I could call them in the 300+ yards to our set up. They got quiet after the pitch down, but at around 0720 they started up again. Gave them some of the sweet sounds they love to hear and by 0745 they were in our lap. 3 jakes came in to our two hen decoy set up. One ran right up to the hen and went into full strut with some spitting and drumming. Then for some reason (I believe my hunting partner had moved, but he would not confess to it) they putted and spooked some. I give the ol' 1, 2, BANG! and then we had two of the three jakes down, our first birds of the year.
