I called in my first and only contest last March here in Alabama. I'll go ahead and tell you, you better remember that your judges are sittin' in those little covered booths right in front of you, and CALL TO THEM. Get down there with 'em so they think that turkey is just on the other side of that curtain. That's all I really know having little experience. I'll tell you this also.....if there are any grand national champs or tv icons that you worship and they are present at the contest you're in, try not to get star struck bud. Sounds dumb I know, but when I met Sadler McGraw, Eddie Salter, Doug Benefield, the creator and owner of Woodhaven calls and all the Sting Team. I was like a dern kid in a candy shop. I got up there on stage and forgot all of what I was trying to concentrate on doing. Didn't work the judges, and didn't even do the call I wanted to do for the caller's choice call, it sucked. All my buddies laughed at me bc they couldn't understand how or why I did that. They didn't know all those guys like I did so it didn't matter to them, it was funny though I guess. I choked big time but maybe I got the first time jitters outta the way. I'm probably gonna enter a couple this year and see what happens. It's fun, you'll enjoy it. Good luck bud.
