I never actually personally tried a Red Dot site for any type of hunting.
Although I do have a friend who has tried the BSA brand, and they are Junk. He had it installed on his Rem 11-87, but after only 9 shots the thing actually fell apart!!! I was right there and witnessed the entire thing happen before my very eyes. I personally prefer a scope, but if I had to buy a Red Dot Optical site, it would be the Aimpoint. This is the "top of the line" brand and not cheap at all, but will hold up to anything. Our armed forces actually use this brand!!!

I've tried several different turkey optics, from Leupold and Nikon turkey scopes t a few Red Dots.... and my all-time fav turkey optic is the latest offerering from TRU Glo, the Gobble Stopper. It's awesome! The battery life will last for thousands of hours (that years of hunting) and the ability to change the reticle colors from RED to GREEN is a great option for ANY shooting/lighting condition you could ever find yourself in. It's a top quality machined alum body.... NO PLASTIC. They feature a extended tube sun shade that eliminates glare and with the unlimted eye relief you'll never have to worry about the brutal recoil of a mag turkey gun bustin' open your brow! You guys may be surprised to see how far Red Dots have come over the years?
